Namelok Community Borehole Project

In Maasai, Namelok means sweet place: sweet, as in “Tasty, savory, attractive”. Namelok is located 25 miles from Amboseli National Park in southern Kenya, and is a growing community of approximately 6,000 individuals, a school of 325 students and 15,000 livestock. People seeking to try their hand at farming move to the area, dig shallow wells and pump water out for irrigation.

Currently, drinking water comes from surface water located in the swamp or shallow wells. Water quality is poor.  The medical officer at the clinic reports many cases of diarrhea, amoebic dysentery and digestive tract issues caused by dirty drinking water. You are helping to change this picture. Shown here are children reveling in the new "river" as the new well was test pumped for 24 hours.

The community of Namelok was very excited to see their new 100,000 liter (30,000 gallons) storage tank being built. The tank is now complete and the concrete is cured. Recently, the solar power was installed to run the pump, dug the trenches for the piping and installed the pipes.   Now the community is drinking clean water!

What Our donors Are Saying

After ten years of financial support, with countless follow-up reports, conversations, photos and video clips, we made a site visit to Water is Life Kenya's Amboseli operations in late November, 2018.  The visit - and our assessment of the organization - well exceeded our expectations.
                                       --  Mandy Cabot, owner, Dansko

A few years ago, a friend invited me to a church dinner where a Water is Life Kenya speaker gave a presentation.  It changed my life.  Intrigued, I wanted to know more.... I have since donated and visited Joyce in Kenya three times with my family.
